Daily Intention
One day last fall, during my daily meditation, I connected a few dots. For months the universe had been giving me answers in the form of clues that I had not heeded.
So, following my intuition, about a month ago, I started studying Reiki. I’ve since learned that people say, “Reiki finds you when the time is right.”
I tend to immerse myself in any new pursuit, so Reiki has been commanding a lot of my attention in the little spare time that I have. Here are a couple of things I’ve learned so far.
Lesson One: Although I channel universal energy with my creative and shamanic pursuits, Reiki seems to be a different approach to becoming the empty vessel or chalice that is a key component to all the modalities.
Lesson Two: I will need to gain perspective on my ego (a common theme across all of these disciplines) for my knowledge or skills to be used for their highest good, and my ego has been difficult for me in the past.
In other posts, I have mentioned my daily mantra for the planet (The World Is a Good Place). For 2020, I also decided to rededicate myself to writing nightly inventory (shout out to my fellow 12-steppers out there) because I know it will provide valuable self-reflection.
Lately, I’ve been struck by the similarities in so many spiritual approaches. The questions on my nightly inventory, the Reiki principles (which I also recite morning and evening), and the tenants of my core shamanic practice are very closely aligned. They were developed by different cultures, half-a-world, and centuries apart, yet they have so much common ground.
I would love to say that I have all the time in the world to dedicate to these practices, yet the truth is I am just as “crazy busy” as everyone else. With work, art, studying, family concerns, etc. my days go by in a flash. And undertaking all of these things separately most likely will add up to me biting off more than I can manageably chew.
So, for efficiency, I clarified and combined a couple of my practices into a single personal-intention mantra (a spiritual self-help remix of sorts). You will find my new composition below. I hope it is useful as-is or helpful as the building blocks for your practice.
My Daily Intention Mantra
I will be reciting this in the morning and the evening, to make sure both of my dreams are aligned.
For all of today,
I will trust that I am a piece of the universe.
I will purely and openly love.
I will be true to myself and honest with others.
I will be grateful and give thanks for my many blessings.
I will be understanding of my neighbor and kind to every living being.
I will be conscious of my actions and the impact I have on the rest of the universe.
I will take action to relieve any suffering I create in others.
